Based just outside of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, GB Seeds is a diverse seed supplier that focuses on delivering high-quality produce to the supply chain. Focusing on specialist crops, they offer their own Naked Oats as well as cereals, pulses, small seeds, herbage and game cover seeds.

OVERVIEW

GB Seeds were looking for a weighing solution for controlling the weight of their bags of produce, the purpose of this is to ensure they're filled to the correct amount. They stressed that their key requirements were for the solution to be user-friendly, robust and competitively priced.

APPROACH

Given the environment, we worked alongside Fisher Scales to ensure that the products used were IP66 rated due to the amount of dust in the air. Each build consisted of a Valueweigh VWXtraPF Mild Steel platform linked to a Cardinal 210 weight indicator and relay module, allowing a stop/start function. Legal-for-trade was another requirement for this project, allowing GB Seeds to sell via the weight measured.

OUTCOME

Since checking in with GB seeds and seeing how the weighing system works for them, they told us that it has already saved them time and made their operations more efficient. Compared to their previous manual system, this part of their packaging process is now a lot less time-consuming.
